Panic! Your Guide To The Sinister Six of Anxiety Disorders

July 02, 2008 By: Reneena Category: news, personal No Comments →

Afraid of losing your job? So scared, in fact, that you end up doing a horrible, horrible job of at least trying to be competent? There’s a universe of difference between worrying about something, and having an anxiety disorder.

(You’re thinking, “ooohhh, Reneena made a comicbook reference. Well, I did have that phase! Plus, I might’ve been anxious as a young girl about growing up expected TO BE something. That’s another story on anxiety though.)

According to the American Association of Addiction Psychiatry, “In the case of anxiety disorders, the patient has an idea that his worries are irrational, yet he can’t stop having them.”

What the sinister six of anxiety does: the heart rate increases, breathing quickens, pupils dilate, muscles tense up, blood sugar levels shoot up, sweat, dizziness and overall queasiness. In the process of that, you may endanger the lives of others, or worse, your own life.

Simple Phobia: It’s an irrational and persistent fear of an object or situation. It could range from being in confined spaces — to fear of peanut butter! (Arachibutyrophobia)

Panic Disorder: This happens when a normal everyday situation for you turns into a traumatizing event. I have a cousin who tried to drink alcohol for the first time, and it hit him — so bad, in fact, that to this day, he’s still afraid of reaching the second bottle of beer.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder: They’re pretty much on the level of worry as far as panic disorder patients, just add obsession. Patients suffering from this anxiety obsess about how they can’t fulfill other people’s expectations of them. So much so, that they lose sleep over an off-hand comment, and generally make them much-less competent than they could be.

Social Disorder: We’ve come across people who are “shy.” Keeping to corners, attending parties and blending in with the background – who’s to say that something might actually be wrong with their confidence? Crippling one of man’s basic functions, that is, to socialize.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: If you’ve seen an episode of Monk, you’ll know how unproductive compulsions are. But the irrational obsession of doing an action a specific number of times may hinder someone’s ability to cope with the rest of his peers.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: Some horrifying events that have happened to people, may in fact, anchor themselves so deep, that patients still relive them at any given moment, without regard for the safety of others.

Overcoming these Anxiety disorders take a lot of work, time and patience on the patient and the therapist’s part. But, to live a true grandeur life means that you don’t overlook other people’s needs, to satiate your own. Hopefully this has been informative for you as well.

Parent Abuse: When Children Control And Abuse Their Parents

June 12, 2008 By: Reneena Category: news 1 Comment →

We all hear of gruesome child abuse from all over the world. From physical abuse to sexual abuse, many people are expressing their concerns through charity in order to save the children who become victims of human ignorance. But what if the table turns around and unfortunately parents become the abused? Would we give the same reaction? Should there be another law that protects parents from their kids?

Yes, there is such thing as parent abuse. Most of the time, it is the teenage children that could afford the kind of unexpected treatment. The sad part is parent abuse is very hard to distinguish, because it is so vague when particular behaviors are just being normal or if they have already become abusive.

However, parent abuse often involves manipulation or force to gain power over the other, and then there are the random threats. It could be any act that may result in physical, emotional and even financial damage. The point is the children will gain power and control.

In most cases, it has always been a confusion between resistance and aggression. Teenagers normally go through a phase when they insist individuality, particularly separation from parental authority. Yet, some of them cross the line of being more than defiant.

Most abuse start with a petty verbal attack. But when this habit progress and continue everyday, it could be very disturbing. Teenagers usually don’t feel any guilt about what they have done. They are often successful in justifying their unacceptable actions. And then the worse will come… verbal abuse which is always a form of psychological abuse. There is the:

· arguing challenge

· being sarcastic or belittling

· name calling

· ‘I hate you!”

· yelling

· swearing at the parents

On the other hand, physical abuse often includes:

· throwing things

· spitting

· shoving and pushing

· hitting, slapping, punching and kicking

· throwing and breaking things

· punching holes in the walls

Teenagers can also become emotional terrorists through:

· lying

· intimidating the parents

· making unrealistic demands

· running away and even staying out all night

· threatening to kill the parents or somebody else

· degrading parents

· withholding affection

· taking control of the household

· making mind games

This form of abuse is not really acknowledged because parents are naturally expected to understand their children. Hence, they are always in control of what their teenagers ought to do and experience. But sometimes it is hard to enforce authority if the parents have lack a thing or two, like spending quality time.

Parents should be able to identify when to straighten things out. Call the police or the social welfare. Don’t be afraid to report, because it is not only for their sake, but for the sake of the children as well. Kids’ unkind or worst behavior should not be tolerated. If it is very difficult to confront the situation, a professional help will always come in handy all the time. The love between parents and their children is not designed to be painful. It should be nurturing. Tolerating such ugly behaviors should be corrected as soon as possible.

One of the most shocking parent abuse cases is this nine year old kid. Watch her smoking at a very early age. Read the accompanying article of this picture, CLICK HERE.

When stars bet on their presidents

May 07, 2008 By: Reneena Category: news No Comments →

The U.S. Election is the new Sunday Night Football.
Everybody is giving the whole fuzz on it and anticipating the results. Couldn’t
blame such a fact since the elected president will be the one responsible for
the whole country. Even the Hollywood stars are making
statements on who are they supporting. Somehow they become huge fans of their presidential bets.

Obviously, the election is a battle
between democrats, although the republicans are still holding on to their
presidential candidate. It’s Hillary Clinton against Barack Obama. So, who are
the ones backing which U.S.
presidential wannabe (at least between the two)?

The lady presidential candidate has garnered more than
enough support. If only the stars could donate more than $4,200 (allowed
donation amount), they’d be more than willing to shell out portion of their fat
bank accounts. She gets the support and endorsement of:

1. Owen Wilson
2. Chris Rock
3. Bette Midler
4. James Caan
5. Billy Crystal
6. Candice Bergen
7. Christie Brinkley
8. Chevy Chase
9. Hugh Hefner
10. Marla Maples

On the other hand, Barack Obama, who is vying to be the first African American president, is backed up by:

1. Michael Douglas
2. Steve Martin
3. Lorne Michaels
4. Paul Newman
5. Elisabeth Shue
6. Jennifer Aniston
7. Jackson Browne
8. Morgan Freeman
9. Tom Hanks
10. Dennis Haysbert

Of course, both of their lists still run long until the final countdown.

A baby with two faces?

Baby with 2 faces

After watching the news, I was really shocked to what I’ve seen. A baby with two faces - two noses, two pairs of lips and two pairs of eyes - was born in an Indian village, where she is being worshipped as the reincarnation of a Hindu goddess. I felt weird and shocked about it but it was interesting though. The abnormality which the baby has is called craniofacial duplication, an extremely rare congenital disorder whereby part or all of the face is duplicated on the head.“She is fine lake any other child”, said by Lali’s father, Vinod Singh, despite of the condition often being linked to other serious health complications. Hospital staffs and officials said that Lali can use both of her mouths and open and shun both pair of her eyes at the same time.

Attracting intense attention, Lali had hundreds of visitors flocking to the village of Saini Sunpura to catch a glimpse of her unusual and unique features. They have been touching Lali’s feet and offer money to receive blessings for they believe that the little girl is the reincarnation of the Hindu goddess of Valour, Durga, a fiery deity traditionally depicted with three eyes and many arms.
